Each student who catches a calf at the Houston Livestock Show™ is awarded a $1,750 certificate to purchase a registered beef heifer or market steer to show at the following Houston Livestock Show™.
One of the most popular events is the Calf Scramble , in which boys and girls aged 14 to 18 who are members of 4-H or FFA, two youth-oriented agricultural organizations, try to catch a calf and pull it into a designated area.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo , also called RodeoHouston or abbreviated HLSR , is the largest livestock exhibition and rodeo in the world. It includes one of the richest regular-season professional rodeo events. It has been held at NRG Stadium in Houston , Texas, since 2003. It was previously held in the Astrodome.
Weekday rodeos start at 6:45 p.m. The entertainer takes the stage at approximately 8:45 p.m. NRG Stadium gates open at 6 p.m. Weekend rodeos start at 3:45 p.m. The entertainer takes the stage at approximately 5:45 p.m. NRG Stadium gates open at 3 p.m.

NCT 127 Makes History as First K-Pop Group to Perform at Houston Rodeo .
The three Friday night performers were revealed on Wednesday: Houston’s own Lizzo; Chance the Rapper; and EDM artist Marshmello. The rest of the lineup was announced in January during a ceremony at NRG Park. They include Willie Nelson ,Chris Stapleton, the K-pop group NCT 127 and Gwen Stefani.

In 1931 , The Houston Fat Stock Show and Livestock Exposition is created after seven men meet for lunch at the Texas State Hotel, with a goal of preserving the cattle industry along the Texas Gulf Coast area.
The 2019 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo generated a total economic impact of $227 million, per the rodeo’s 2019 Economic Impact Study. The rodeo also provided a total economic activity of $391 million in Greater Houston .
